Buying a home without a timber pest inspection is one of the most expensive mistakes you can make. Here's what a proper inspection covers.
A pre-purchase timber pest inspection is a one-off, non-invasive examination of a property for evidence of termites, borers, fungal decay and conducive conditions. It is carried out to Australian Standard AS4349.3 and is separate from a building inspection (AS4349.1).
Many Penrith and Blue Mountains homes were built in the 1960s–80s with untreated softwood framing — prime termite food. Bushland-fringe suburbs like Leonay, Glenmore Park, Mulgoa, Springwood and Wentworth Falls are particularly high-risk.
